Summary

The risk rural emergency nurses who practice in their own community face is that they one day may have to care for someone close to them or a member of their own family. My journey involved several presentations to the Emergency Department by people I loved, sometimes with devastating results, while still being stricken with grief from the sudden loss of my mother. Altogether, I attended eight funerals in ten months.

Seeking professional help was a crucial step in the healing process.
